Converse’s Iconic Chuck Taylor Gets Updated With Sustainable Tech

The classic All Star gets the “Space Hippie” treatment.

At over a hundred years old, there’s probably more Chucks out there than any other sneaker in the world, so its great to hear that the classic is evolving with a more sustainable focus. The new Chuck Taylor All Star Crater takes design influence from the recently launched Space Hippie collection from parent company Nike.

However, unlike the all-new sneaker silhouettes that the Space Hippie series launched with, the mission for these was to remain true to the Chuck Taylor DNA andrefrain from messing with the core aesthetics that has endured for over a century.

The design team managed to achieve at least 40% recycled content usage by employing Nike’s Crater Foam tech for the soles and by employing Morphlon blends which features recycled polyester/post-industrial textile waste scraps. This kind of mindset towards sustainable design forms the basis for future Converse Renew collections
