HAPPENING AROUND: Surveillance @ Valentine Willie Fine Art, KL

Friday, August 8th, 2008

Malaysian artist Nadiah Bamadhaj will be holding a solo art exhibition, titled Surveillance, at Valentine Willie Fine Art this August. Through her art, Nadiah puts forth the argument that the spaces that we reside in have actually been moulded into several groups, based on religion and ethnicity, making the subjects readily identifiable as if they were under surveillance.

Surveillance runs from 16th - 30th August, 2008, at Valentine Willie Fine Art, Kuala Lumpur, 1st Floor, 17 Jalan Telawi 3, Bangsar Baru, 59100 Kuala Lumpur; T +603 2284 2348.

Most people have probably watched The Dark Knight by now, hands down the most anticipated blockbuster of the year and what many are saying is the best Batman film ever. As a homage to the caped crusader, Hong Kong designer/illustrator Dorophy Tang has created Batbaby, a light-hearted series of paintings that really take the dark out of the knight. Like the works that Dorophy showcased at her recent exhibition at the adidas Center in Beijing, as well as the 1000% Be@rbrick created for charity, the paintings use her signature style of traditional Chinese influences and vintage treatment.
