Sigma ’18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM Art’ Lens for APS-C DSLRs

By Julian Loh, April 18, 2013

This is a surprise, out of the blue Sigma announces the first ever zoom lens to maintain a constant aperture of F1.8. Granted it isn’t full frame and just for APS-C DSLRs such as the Nikon D7100 and Canon 7D, this essentially offers prime lens low light capability with the option to quickly switch from a moderate wide angle of around 28mm (full frame equivalent), to a more normal perspective of 50mm. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but the specs sheet show this is quite a hefty lens at 810 grams and taking 72mm filters. If this lens can garner even half the universal praise Sigma’s recently released 35mm F1.4 lens has received, it will certainly bolster the reputation of the premium Art series of lenses and show that Sigma mean business.
