RED WING SHOES’ ICON NIGHT IN TOKYO

A few weeks ago, we were in Tokyo for Red Wing Icon Night, where Red Wing Shoes paid tribute to their classic Moc-Toe and Round-Toe styles by showcasing 100 pairs of shoes from their archive and current line-up.

Their Aoyama store was transformed into a one-night-only museum – or shoeseum – with highlights being previous collaborations with the likes of Stussy, BAPE, Neighborhood as well as rare vintage Moc-Toes and Round-Toes.

The event also saw the unveiling of their upcoming custom service that will allow people to bring in their shoes for modifications or order new shoes fitted with custom specifications. Everything is done in-house by Red Wing using official Red Wing leathers and hardware with craftsmanship standards to the same level employed in their own USA factory.

The list of options include zipper shrouds that are custom cut to ensure they follow the contours of the boots they will be paired to. They are made from the same leathers uses on Red Wing shoes and feature heavy duty industrial hardware to make them as durable as the boots they’re going on.

Also, for the first time you can get your soles fitted/redone in options that were previously unheard of in Red Wing Shoes Heritage releases – namely double and triple stacked leather soles. Other options include storm welts, commando soles, black wedge soles and anything else that is in Red Wing’s production line-up. The service will be rolled out sometime next year and pricing as well as deliverable timeframes for services will be announced then.

The event also saw the unveiling of the collaboration collection with the legendary Hiroshi Fujiwara and his Fragment Design label. Fujiwara works his magic on the classic 6” Moc-Toe and Round-Toe boots in Black Chrome leather. Whilst they look similar to the classic in-line models, the difference is in the subtle details, such as the storm welt, black stitching, piping around the collars as well as Fragment Design branding embossed into the ankle area.

The Fragment Design x Red Wing Shoes 4679 Moc-Toe and 4665 Round-Toe will be exclusive to the Red Wing Shoe Store Singapore and will be launched on December 28th, 2019 in extremely limited quantities.
